Ork Dip -- Click me!

So I am going to be entering in a 40k tournament in August.  I’ll be entering as an Ork player and have been tuning and playing various lists in preparation..   I have a lot left to do though..  I also have a lot of painting to do because one of the requirements is that you have a fully painted army.  It doesn’t have to be professionally painted but it does have to look generally good, and have more than 3 colors on the model.

That’s fine, except I have a LOT of models to paint and I generally take far too long to paint them.  I can spend 2 hours painting a single dude, and considering I have over 100 dudes (not counting vehicles)  yet to paint.. I have a daunting task ahead of me..

I told my friends that there would be no way in hell I could paint all 100+ models in the time left.. It’s just not possible.. That’s when my buddy got after me to use the “dip” method of painting.. It’s fast and easy, and you don’t have to “color in the lines”..

So tonight I gave it a try..

Voyager of the Seas

So I have been asked repeatedly when am I going to get these photos posted.. I have to apologize that its taken this long..  My only real excuse is that I’m lazy..  I could lie and say it took a while to get them developed, but it’s a digital camera.. In reality the thing that took the longest was having a clear way to display them.  The lightbox made that happen, then it was just a matter of typing this stuff out. It’s a long post.. but then it was 7 days of fun so.. lots to talk about..

Harman/Kardon Amplifier

Well already the warranty I purchased for my new (used) car has damn near paid for itself..  I was driving into work in the CLK, listening to my tunes when I noticed I needed gas..  I pulled into the gas station and shut off the car to fill it up..

Upon restart, my sound system wasn’t working.  It acted like it was working but for whatever reason no sound was coming out of the speakers..   Something had gone wrong..

I mentioned previously that I didn’t like used cars… this is why.  You never know how badly the car was abused by the previous owner..  With that thought firmly in mind I went ahead and paid an extra $2k to get the additional 4 year bumper to bumper warranty on the car when buying it.

Everything on the car appears to be in perfect shape — like new.  And it could well be that this was just one of those things..  Electronics fail eventually.. but seriously, this is a high quality audio system and it failed after only 2 years?   I have never had a car audio system stop working.. And none of my previous cars had anywhere near the price tag on their systems..

Mercedes-Benz CLK350

So I have been in a the market for a new car for a while now.  I haven’t really pushed for it with my wife because neither one of us really wanted a car payment and my truck, while almost 10 years old, worked just fine.

But I was sort of looking.   My wife owns a Mercedes-Benz SLK230 hard top convertible and I really do enjoy driving it.  Not so much the Mercedes-Benz part, but the convertible part.  So I was in the market for a new convertible and was sort of browsing around with no plans to buy.

I wanted to keep the price of the car around thirty thousand dollars give or take. That was the soft limit I had applied to myself — Any more than that and I was spending too much.

Plus I had a pretty specific style of car I wanted.. The ones that were in the running where the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Pontiac Solstice, the Saturn Sky, the Nissan 350z or anything else comparable..

Formal Dinner

So we just got back from our cruise! We had a blast!!

I plan to tell you guys all about it, but dear god I’m sick as hell. I was fine on the boat, but the day after I got back I managed to contract the plague..

I’ll post later about the cruise and my fear 2 review.  I need to feel a hell of a lot better first..  This 103 temperature thing has to go..

Windows 7 Beta

I’m generally slow to change operating systems..  When it comes to making one of those sweeping changes, traditionally I was the equivalent of an old man on his porch yelling for “you kids to get off my lawn!”   I was a curmudgeon and quite often would refuse to budge.

I didn’t switch to Windows 95 until sometime in 97.. I didn’t switch to 98 until 99.. I didn’t go to NT at all, and stayed on W2k Pro until well after XP was out.  The only reason I went XP was because it was on the new computer I had purchased already..

My reason for not wanting to upgrade to the newest version of windows was usually because it’s painful, the upgrade sucks and quite often I have to go back.  (I wont even go into my Windows ME story.. I had one of the Microsoft Windows ME tell me to go back to 98 because ME sucked…  Yeah.. It happened..)

More over upgrading isn’t the way to go.. you should wipe fresh and start over..  I usually dreaded this..   What cured that?  Funnily enough, Ubuntu..
