My new project requires a common theme across both Wordpress (and thus Wordpress MU) and Invision Power Board. No small order.

To that end I have decided to convert (or redesign) the Chromatophore Joomla theme into a combined wordpress / invision power board theme. I decided to go with this look because I very much appreciate what the folks over at RocketTheme did with the Chromatophore theme. To be honest if I were using Joomla I’d buy it, but since I’m not I must create my own.

Instead of just cutting and pasting their html, js, css, and images into an already created wordpress template I have decided to recreate the theme from what I see alone. Without looking at their source — at all.  (So far I’ve only peaked a couple times)

I was asked today what my professional opinion was with regards to which graphical format to use in web design. I pondered it a bit and it occurred to me that this was a very misleading question, and showed an error in thinking. Of the three commonly used formats none of them are “correct” and all three of them have their place in web design. This is very much a “use the correct format, for the correct job.”

Of the three image types commonly used on the web today (GIF, PNG and JPEG) usually the argument comes in the form of people agreeing that JPEG has one use; and either GIF or PNG has the other use. The religious war begins when folks try to argue the merits of GIF versus PNG. And usually it comes in the form of arguing PNG’s new hotness and it’s lack of support by Microsoft against GIF as the old standard that may not have as many features but at least its supported.

Well per my post on the 18th I have gotten wordpress mu up and running on my forum server.  Currently the urls used to access that system are;

Only the first one works 100% correctly right now.  My virtual hosts file and dns aren’t quite syncing up correctly — should be fixed eventually.

By that, you should take this as a very serious effort on my part.  I want this to be a success.  The next thing I must do is figure out how to correctly style the MU entry page such that it’s a self explainitory advertisement of what it does, and such that it incorporates content from the various other blogs. As many of you know I am the owner of the Amateur and Fan Films forum over at fanfilmsforum.com. I am always keen on making new things happen for people and have always wanted that community to do well. While I will admit my aspirations to make films has some what died down, I still very much enjoy talking about films and media in general and interacting with the folks on the forum.

Over the years I have started and stopped several projects for the forum. Most of them looked good on paper, or even half way through production but just didn’t pan out for one reason or another. The latest attempt was at making a film repository and voting system that was similar to IMDB but specifically for amateur/fan films. As of right now that project is on hold - likely forever.

This is my first fully custom, from the ground up worldpress theme — I give you; Microblue.

As of this posting, its the theme I’m using and I plan to release it to the wild once it’s fully working. I also will be releasing the PSD that I used to create it so you can take it one step farther if you like.

For icons I’m using either using famfamfam.com silk icons or taking those icons and modifying them in some way.
